Golden Leadership Award
The Center for Student Involvement is implementing a new
leadership award program, The Golden Leadership Award, which will honor
students for their hard work, dedication and leadership in our community.
At the beginning of each month, Students, faculty and staff can nominate
Truman students to receive the Golden Leadership Award.
The Truman Golden Leadership Award will evaluate four
categories: (1) campus involvement, (2) academic achievement, (3) community
involvement, and (4) work experience.
- Campus Involvement: As student involvement is crucial to a
thriving campus, the Truman Golden Leadership Award will evaluate
the nominee's involvement in university sponsored organizations.
Campus involvement criteria will not necessarily be met by the
number of organizations that a nominee participates in, but rather
by the amount of time spent on campus involvement and the quality of
the nominee's involvement.
- Academic Achievement: Because the purpose of college is to become
educated, the Selection Committee will evaluate the students'
performance in the classroom. The nominee's academic achievement will
primarily be measure by the maintaining of grade point average. In
addition, students will be evaluated on a faculty reference (If the
nominator is a faculty member, this reference must be from a different
faculty member).
- Community Involvement: Involvement and service in the community is
also an important aspect that the Truman Golden Leadership Award will
consider. The community involvement will be measured by the quality of
the programs that the nominee participates in, a consistent trend of
volunteer work, and the number of hours that the nominee spends
volunteering their time.
- Work Experience: On-campus work experience, although not mandatory,
is an important part of a student's experience at Truman, and therefore
will also be evaluated by the Selection Committee. However, if the
nominee does not work on-campus, they will not be penalized, but they
will only be judged on the other three criteria. Work experience will
not be evaluated by the number of hours worked, but by the quality of
work performed.
