Student Organizations

According to Astin (1985), “students learn by becoming involved.” At Truman, students have an abundance of involvement opportunities to explore. While membership eligibility varies based upon the particular organizations, all students are encouraged to explore all their particular interests and find quality out of classroom experiences to take advance of. Below is an inclusive list of all currently chartered student organizations at Truman State University. Some individual departments also have organizations for students to join.

If you do not see an organization below that interests you, and are interested in starting a new organization; please visit the CSI Organization Services work group about starting a new organizations. Prior to your visit, please familiarize yourself with the basic requirements for creating a new organization.

  • Campus Media
    These organizations are affiliated with the university and provide media services for the campus.
  • Cultural
    These organizations promote learning and awareness of different cultures.
  • Departmental/Professional
    These organizations are limited to students in a particular discipline. Emphasis is the knowledge, skills and experience related to a particular field.
  • Fee Based
    All organizations supported by the Student Activity Fee
  • Greek Societies
    These social organizations are affiliated with Panhellenic Council, National Panhellenic Council, or Intrafraternity Council.
  • Honorary
    These organizations cover one department or all departments. They contain a GPA requirement and focus on scholarship.
  • Political
    These organizations represent student interests in various political ideologies.
  • Recreational/Sports
    These organizations compete against other schools or hold recreational activities.
  • Religious
    These organizations relate to a particular religion and may hold religious serevices.
  • Residence Life
    These organizations are limited to students living in Residence Halls. They include hall governments and provide educational and social activities for their members.
  • Service
    These organizations main focus is providing service to the campus and community.
  • Special Interest
    All organizations with missions that support a specific activity or thought. These organizations are not affiliated with a department, religion or particular athletic sport.
